ILIZAROV APPARATUS

Ilizarov apparatus

Description :

Rods are screwed into bone and exit the body to be attached to a stabilising structure on the outside of the body.

Uses :

1. Lengthen or Reshape Limb Bones

Indications :

  1. Malunions
  2. Deformity correction
  3. Non Unions
  4. Unstable closed fracture

INTERLOCKING NAIL

Interlocking nail

Description :

 large diameter rod which is inserted into the bone medullary cavity and securing its place by using locking bolts which goes from one cortex to another and as a result the nail remains stable inside the medullary cavity.

Uses :

Traumatic Bone Fractures : 

  1. Femoral diaphyseal fractures and disatl femur fractures.
  2. Humeral shaft fractures
  3. Tibia shaft fractures with proximal and distal fracture of tibia
  4. Metaphyseal fractures

INTRAMEDULLARY NAIL

Intramedullary nail

Description :

Also known as Intramedullary rod made up of metal.

Uses :

1. Fractures of bones :We use this device in fractures of diaphyses and metaphysis of long bones in childrens.


JACOB CHUCK

Jacob chuck

Description :

Metal body fitted to drill

Uses :

Used in Intramedullary pin insertion


K NAIL

K nail

Description :

Also known as KUNTSCHER CLOVERLEAF NAILS.

—Metallic long rod like structure

Uses :

1. Fractures : used in diferent bones like Femur, Tibia, Humerus, Forearm, Clavicle, and compound gun fractures.

2. For non union and delay union of bones

3. Malunion correction


KIRSCHNER WIRE

K-Kirschner wire

Description :

Long metallic wires with sharp pointed tip and curved base.

Uses :

1. Temporary Fixation : During some operations we use this device to get temporary fixation of bones.

  1. Clavivle fractures
  2. Olecranon fracture
  3. Patella fracture

KUNTSCHER CLOVERLEAF

Kuntscher cloverleaf

Description :

Long metallic rod, hollow with a longitudinal slot over its entire length.

Uses :

Fractures of bones : We use this device in fractures of diaphyses and metaphysis of long bones. 

——-Mostly used in Femur fracture.


LANE TISSUE HOLDING FORCEPS

Lane tissue holding forceps

Description :

Made up of stainless steel and has two arms and curved ring like tips.

—-There is a Box Joint present to connect the two arms.

Uses :

1. Tough or Bulky Tissue : Used to hold tough/bulky tissues for skin apposition.

2. Biopsy : Holding the lymph node for Biopsy sample.

3. Appendectomy : Holding the Appendix in Appendectomy.


LOCKING PLATES

Locking plates

Description :

Locking plates with central holes to fit the screws.

Uses :

1. Stabilizing fractures : Used in fracture fixation


LOWMANS BONE CLAMP

Bowman's bone clamp

Description :

Made up of stainless steel and has a body, long screw, and the curved tips.

Uses :

1. Grasping Bones : To grasp bone and make it align in normal place.

2. Compression : Can be used in compression of bones


OSTEOTOME

Osteotome

Description :

One Handle and the both the edges of the tip are beveled. These are similar to chisel but bevelled at both sides.

Uses :

Used to cut and prepare bones.


PERIOSTEAL ELEVATOR

Periosteal elevator

Description :

Long metallic structure with three parts:

  1. Rounded end for lifting mucoperiosteum
  2. Ergonomically design
  3. Slight pointed end for blunt subperiosteal dissection

Uses :

1. Elevates Tissue : The Broader end is used to elevates tissues from bones.

—— The sharp end is used to elevate soft tissues from dental papilla.


PROXIMAL FEMORAL NAIL

Proximal femoral nail

Description :

This is an Osteosynthetic implant designed to treat proximal femoral fractures.

Uses :

1. Fractures of Femur :

  1. Petrochanteric fractures
  2. Intertrochanteric fractures
  3. Subtrochanteric fractures

RADIUS NAIL

Radius nail

Description :

Radius intramedullary nails.

Uses :

Fracture of radius bone 


RIGHT ANGLE RETRACTOR

Right angle retractor

Description :

Also called Right angle retractor.

Made up of stainless steel and has a ringed handle and a  blade at the proximal end which is at right angle with the handle and the neck.

Uses :

1. Better Visualization : For better visualisation pulling back of soft tissues, incision or wound edges during surgeries.


RUSH NAIL

Rush nail

Description :

Made up of stainless steel and has two ends :

  1. One Side bevelled tip : For easy insertion
  2. Hook for Extraction 

Uses :

1. Long Bone Fractures : This device is used for long bones like Femur, Tibia, Humerus, Radius and Ulna for occurring of fractures in diaphyses and metaphyses of the bones.


SPONGE HOLDING FORCEPS

Sponge holding forceps

Description :

Made up of stainless steel and has 6 parts :

  1.  Finger Ring
  2. Ratchet
  3. Shank
  4. Box Joint
  5. Jaws which are serrated from inside

Uses :

1. Holding : Used to hold Sponge ,Cotton Swabs, or a gauze piece for cleansing the skin the skin area before the operation.


STEINMANN PIN

Steinmann pin

Description :

Made up of stainless steel and has sharp pointed tip.

Uses :

1. Skeletal Traction : This device is used for skeletal traction when femoral fractures occurs. A first the pin is inserted into the proximal tibia and then a Stirrup is attached to get traction as desired.


THOMSON PROSTHESIS

Thomson prosthesis

Description :

Metallic body has mainly 3 parts :

  1. Head
  2. Acutely angled collar
  3. Stem

Uses :

1. Femur Fracture : We use this prosthesis when there is no neck available for non union of fracture of the neck of the femur.


TOOTHED FORCEPS

Toothed forceps

Description :

This forceps has two arms and has spring mechanism.

—The tips has teeth.

Uses :

1. Dissecting : Mostly used in dissection to hold tissues.

2. Suturing : Other than dissecting it can be used in holding suture and needle.


NON-TOOTHED FORCEPS

Non-toothed/plain forceps

Description :

This forceps has two arms and has spring mechanism.

—The tips are grooved.

Uses :

1. Dissecting : Mostly used in dissection to hold tissues.

2. Suturing : Other than dissecting it can be used in holding suture and needle.


TOTAL ELBOW REPLACEMENT PROSTHESIS

Total elbow replacement prosthesis

Description :

Made up of metal and a Hinge joint by which the stems are attached.

Uses :

1. Elbow Replacement : Total elbow replacement is done when Inflammatory arthropathies occurs such as Rheumatoid arthritis.


TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT PROSTEHSIS

Total knee replacement prosthesis

Description :

Prosthesis has mainly 3 components :

  1. Femoral Component
  2. Plastic Spacer
  3. Tibial Component

Uses :

1. Knee Replacement : Total knee replacement is indicated when destruction of joint cartilage occurs either from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory arthritis.


ULNA NAIL

Ulnar nail

Description :

Metallic pin.

Uses :

Osteotomies and fixtures of the fibula and ulna.
