1. Pulled elbow :
- A pulled elbow in a child under the age of five is a common occurrence. Nursemaid’s elbow is another name for it.
- A pulled elbow occurs when the radius bone in the lower arm becomes partially displaced from its usual position at the elbow joint.
2. Tennis elbow :
- Tennis elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, is a painful ailment that develops when the tendons in the elbow becomes overworked, usually as a result of repetitive wrist and arm motions.
- Mostly due to the radial nerve injury
3. Tuberculosis of elbow :
- These are very rare now a days. Tuberculosis (TB) of the elbow affects 2-5 percent of all skeletal sites.
- The patients complained of pain, edoema, and a decrease of range of motion. It took an average of 8 months from the onset of symptoms to presentation.
- The elbows were categorised using a modified Martini’s radiological classification system, which distinguishes between osseous lesions close to the joint line (e.g. coronoid, condyles) and lesions away from the joint line (e.g. coronoid, condyles) (e.g. epicondyles, olecranon).
4. Rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoarthritis :
A. Rheumatoid arthritis :
Rheumatoid arthritis is a long-term inflammatory condition that affects more than your joints. The illness can harm a range of body systems in some people, including the skin, eyes, lungs, heart, and blood vessels.
B. Osteoarthritis :
When the cartilage surface of the elbow is worn out or injured, osteoarthritis develops. A past injury, such as an elbow dislocation or fracture, can induce this. The most prevalent cause is regular wear and tear of the joint cartilage as a result of age and activity.
5. Cubitus varus and valgus :
Cubitus Varus :
- It is a common consequence of supracondylar fractures, occurring in up to 30% of cases.
- Cubitus varus also known as gunstock deformity is a distal humerus malalignment that causes a change in carrying angle from physiologic valgus to varus malalignment of the arm and forearm.
Cubitus Valgus :
- When completely extended, cubitus valgus is a medical malformation in which the forearm is tilted away from the body more than normal.
- A small amount of cubitus valgus, often known as the carrying angle, is normal and occurs in most people.
6. Tardy ulnar nerve palsy :
- After an elbow injury, tardy ulnar nerve palsy is a persistent clinical disease defined by delayed onset ulnar neuropathy.
- The most common cause of tardy ulnar nerve palsy is nonunion of paediatric lateral condyle fractures at the elbow, which leads to a cubitus valgus deformity.
7. Ulnar neuritis :
- Ulnar neuritis is a disorder in which the ulnar nerve is inflamed or squeezed. The ulnar nerve runs all the way down the arm to the pinky.
- The most common segment of nerve that is compressed is the section that runs through the elbow.
8. Ulnar tunnel syndrome :
It occurs when the ulnar nerve is squeezed as it travels from the wrist to the hand through Guyon’s canal. Because of the nerve compression, you may experience weakness, tingling, numbness, or pain.
9. Olecranon bursitis :
Swelling, redness, and tenderness at the point of the elbow are all symptoms of olecranon bursitis. Fever may be present if the underlying cause is an infection. Bursitis is a fairly common ailment, and one of the most common forms is bursitis.
10. Myositis ossificans :
- After an injury, myositis ossificans is a disorder in which bone tissue grows inside muscle or other soft tissue.
- Young adults and athletes, who are more likely to sustain traumatic injuries, are more likely to develop it.
- Myositis ossificans is most commonly found in the major muscles of the arms or legs.
11. Osteochondritis and Osteochondritis dissecans :
Osteochondritis :
Osteochondritis is a painful form of osteochondrosis in which a joint’s cartilage or bone is inflamed.
Osteochondritis dissecans is the most common type of osteochondritis (OCD).
Osteochondritis dissecans :
Osteochondritis dissecans is a disorder in which the bone beneath a joint’s cartilage dies owing to a lack of blood flow. This bone and cartilage can then come loose, producing pain and perhaps limiting joint motion.
